Black Rhino Radio teams up with Velo and Control Cub to present Selector Thursday, a monthly takeover dedicated to the women selectors.
Irina Mele is a Bucharest born DJ who cares for her craft as a way to tell stories. Being a proud student of Foundation Hip Hop Centre Amsterdam, she walks her path with the knowledge that music comes first, and the skill and sensibility to create necessary space for people to have an experience on the dancefloor.
“The sound I play is rooted in House culture in its entirety: the music, the dance and, in essence, the people who originated it. There are generations who pass tradition to the youth so it can live on. We have to respect that by showing up and doing the work.”
The main ingredients in her sets are deep, soulful, acid House energy, Techno coming from Detroit, Broken Beat, as well as bits of Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop.
Selector Thursday amplifies the women’s presence behind the decks. Each edition highlights a new selector—an artist with a unique story, bold style, and skill. Expect all sorts of music, club or listening oriented, carefully selected to carve stories that move from deep underground to the surface.
